Imagine a group of beautiful black women, different heights, figures, complexions, and styles, come together for one common goal.
Impossible right? At least that's how the media tends to portray and showcase black women. According to main stream media (#msm), we're supposed to be at each other's throats with envy and jealousy, competing against each other, and/or discouraging one another.
Well, none of that happened at the March 18th photo shoot for 46 & 5! In fact, what was supposed to be just a photo shoot to promote some of our products for the website launch, turned into so much more!
Several women came together, most were complete strangers to each other. We got to know each other, made lasting friendships, discussed career opportunities, aspirations, goals, and dreams. We spoke of each other's beauty, some of our own insecurities, and uplifted each other! So much love, respect, and reverence in this tiny, but busy coffee shop!
People around us were intrigued by what we were doing, and our products, and even complimented us!
One women in particular noticed some of our products and said "your mugs are hilarious"........
Now, we knew she didn't mean to offend, and I'm sure she realized that maybe that wasn't the greatest choice of words when she saw the expressions on our faces, but the scenario made us realize a few things!
We realized that this "shoot" was necessary! We needed to come together and be on one accord! We needed to show that we ourselves, and our products were not hilarious, but beautiful! And sure, you may not see this type of beauty represented, but here we are!
We left that coffee shop more enlightened than we did going in, and decided that this would not be the last time we did something like this.
